Clackamas Rep bringing beloved musical The Sound of Music to the stage for 15 performances in August

Talented cast of 24 includes Merideth Kaye Clark as Marie Rainer and her two daughters as von Trapp children

OREGON CITY, Ore. — July 14, 2022 — Clackamas Repertory Theatre presents the endearing musical, The Sound of Music August 4-28 at Osterman Theatre on the campus of Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. Performances take place Thursday – Saturday at 7:30pm, with 2:30pm Sunday matinees. Tickets may be purchased at www.clackamasrep.org or by calling (503) 594-6047.

Winner of the 1959 Tony Award for Best Musical, The Sound of Music is the final collaboration between Broadway legends Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The show is based on the true story of the von Trapp Family Singers and tells the inspiring tale of their escape from the Nazi invasion of Austria.

One of the most beloved musicals of all time, The Sound of Music includes standards Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, Do-Re-Me, and Sixteen Going on Seventeen.

Clackamas Rep’s production features a cast of 24 headlined by Equity actors Merideth Kaye Clark as Maria Rainer and Leif Norby as Captain Georg von Trapp.

Kaye Clark’s daughters, Ever Rose Thorsell and Arden Thorsell, play von Trapp children Marta and Gretl, respectively. The other von Trapp children are played by Lindsey Donohue (Liesl); Carter Christianson (Friedrich); Melody Wells-Benitez (Louisa); Henry Tullis (Kurt); and Jorja Reed (Brigitta).

The cast also includes James Lawrence as Max Detweiller; Kerry Moriarty as Elsa Schrader; Elizabeth Eklund as Mother Abbess; Sarah Rose as Sister Berthe; Rachelle Riehl as Sister Margaretta; Phoebe Gildea as Sister Sophia; Sam Holloway as Franz; Laura Hiszczynskyj; Richard Cohn Lee as Herr Zeller; and Jackson Wells-Benitez as Rolf Gruber.

Ensemble members are Voni Kengal, Andrew Hallas, Bryna Montgomery, James Montgomery, Brian Trybom, and Mathias Westmond.

James Osterman, a generous supporter of Clackamas Repertory Theatre and the local arts community, is sponsoring Clackamas Rep’s 2022 season and The Sound of Music in memory of his wife, Janice. Osterman’s love of musicals was inspired by his mother, who was a music teacher, and, in particular, his late wife Janice, who appeared as the lead in many musicals when the couple were students at Milwaukie High School. Jim and Janice have been major sponsors since Clackamas Rep’s first season in 2005.

The Sound of Music will be directed by Jayne Stevens, Clackamas Rep’s assistant managing director. The production team includes Set and Lighting Designer Chris Whitten, Choreographer Wesley Hanson, Costume Designer Melissa Heller, and Properties Designer Haley Hurita.

There will be a low-cost preview performance August 4; opening night is August 6.

Children under the age of 6 will not be admitted.

Audience members will be required to wear masks and provide proof of vaccination to attend performances. Clackamas Rep’s COVID 19 policy is subject to change and can be viewed online.
